Frequently Asked Questions.
Everything you need to know about booking a massage with rcvroom in Liverpool. Can't find your answer? Get in touch.
What is sports massage?
Sports massage is a hands-on treatment that works on muscles and soft tissue to relieve tension, improve movement and support recovery. It's usually firmer and more targeted than a relaxation massage, and it's tailored to how you train, work and move.
Do I need to be an athlete to book a sports massage?
Not at all. Many of my clients are gym-goers, runners and climbers, but plenty simply have tight shoulders from desk work or aches from a physical job. If your body is working hard, sports massage can help.
What's the difference between sports massage and Swedish massage?
Sports massage focuses on specific areas of tension using deeper, more targeted techniques. Swedish massage uses longer, flowing strokes across the whole body to help you relax and reduce general fatigue. Many sessions combine both, depending on what you need.
Where do treatments take place?
In three places: a monthly clinic at The Changing Rooms at Sudley House, on-site at partner gyms around Liverpool, and at home for existing clients across the Liverpool City Region.
How do I book?
Clinic appointments can be booked online through the services page. For gym sessions, partnerships or anything else, send an enquiry through the contact page. Existing clients can arrange home visits through the members area.
Can I book a home visit as a new client?
Home visits are reserved for existing clients, so your first session will be at the monthly clinic or one of my partner gyms. After that, you can apply for access to the members area.
How much does a session cost, and how long is it?
Sessions run from 45 to 90 minutes depending on what you need. For current prices, see the booking page.
How do I pay?
Clinic appointments are paid in full online when you book.
What happens at my first appointment?
When your booking is confirmed, you'll be emailed an intake and consent form to complete beforehand. At the start of the session we'll talk through your health history, any problem areas and what you want to get out of the treatment. Then I'll tailor the massage to you and finish with some practical advice for afterwards.
What should I wear?
Wear something comfortable. For most treatments you'll undress to your underwear for the areas being worked on, and you'll stay covered with towels except for the area being treated. Shorts are ideal for leg work. If you'd prefer to stay partly clothed, just say so — I can adapt my approach.
Does sports massage hurt?
It can feel firm, and some areas may be tender, but it shouldn't be painfully intense. I'll check in with you throughout, and you're always in control of the pressure.
Can I have a massage if I'm injured or have a medical condition?
Often yes, but please mention any injuries, conditions or medication on your intake form so I can adapt the treatment. Some conditions need clearance from your GP first. Massage isn't a substitute for medical diagnosis, so for a new or severe injury, please see your GP or a physiotherapist first.
How do I cancel an appointment?
You can cancel using the link in your booking confirmation email. Cancel 48 hours or more before your appointment for a full refund, or between 24 and 48 hours before for a 50% refund — both minus a 5% administration fee. Cancellations with less than 24 hours' notice, and missed appointments, aren't refunded. You can read the full cancellation policy here.
I run a gym — can you offer massage on-site?
Yes. I offer on-site sports massage at gyms and training spaces across Liverpool. All I need is a quiet private room of around 3m × 3m with a door that closes — I bring the table, linens, oils and everything else. Get in touch to discuss a partnership.
Are you qualified and insured?
Yes. I'm a Level 3 Sports Massage Therapist, a registered member of CIMSPA, a full member of the Federation of Holistic Therapists, and fully insured. You can read more about my background on the about page.
